Established in 1997, the Challenged Athletes Foundation recognizes the athletic greatness inherent in all people with physical challenges and supports their athletic endeavors by providing unparalleled sports opportunities that lead to success in sports—and in life. The CAF helps people with physical challenges live full active lives through participation in fitness activities and competitive sports. They step in where rehabilitation and health insurance ends, helping people not just to walk again but to run.
From seed to table, SFC creates opportunities for individuals to make healthy food choices and to participate in a vibrant local food system. Through organic food gardening, relationships with area farmers, interactive cooking classes and nutrition education, children and adults have increased access to locally grown food and are empowered to improve the long-term health of Central Texans and our environment.
Marathon Kids began in 1996 and is provided free to public and private elementary schools, as well as home schools, or independent families. Their goal is for the children to develop the love and habit of moving through space and to carry forward the power of muscular, nutritional and psychological well being. The kids learn to live an active and healthy lifestyle by running or walking 26.2 miles over six months, eating healthy food daily, and even learning to grow fruits and veggies.
The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County is a leader in youth development and enhances their partnerships to produce positive outcomes for young people and their families. The club provides hope, opportunity, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, and a safe place to learn and grow. Their mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need them the most, to realize their full potential to become productive, responsible and caring adults. The club offers an array of programs for boys and girls ages 7 to 18.
